  1. Recently cut down a 35-year-old cactus (beaver tail stems, the young ones being edible for cooking). Didn’t take care of it the last couple of years. At least the composted empty ground has now sprouted 3 spagetti squash plants from our kitchen vegetable cuttings. One of them has 2 small squashes. Can’t wait till they’re ready to harvest.

I didn’t realize there was much you needed to do to take care of a cactus. But we don’t have them in NY so I guess I wouldn’t know either. 🙂 But it sounds like something good came out of the situation with the spagetti squash!
