Between Beavers and now Woodpeckers I am seeing more damage to trees!

We had several woodpeckers playing havoc so I put out several woodpecker food feeders. it helped! they don’t make beaver feeders though. 🙂

      2. Bernice says:

ha ha ha.. I can’t even imagine what a beaver feeder might look like!!

      3. kanzensakura says:

        That’s funny.

If a pileated…wow. down here, they are called the “gods of the lumber due to their large size and aggressive attacks on trees. of course, they are also going after the insects in the tree so the tree already has a problem. suet with ground corn and seeds really makes them happy and will help distract them. several went after our neighbor’s log home! they prompty invested in about 20 f those suet feeders and suet blocks.

      5. Bernice says:

Oh my gosh! I can’t imagine a log home under attach by them! That would be disastrous!

  2. Wow, he really made a meal of this one. 😯

    1. Bernice says:

He sure did! We were surprised the tree was still standing!

  3. Bernice, I know it is wordless Wednesday but I just had to comment. Have you seen the woodpecker that did this damage? My guess it is a Pileated Woodpecker which is the largest woodpecker in North America. They can really do a lot of damage to trees. Check out my post about a tree that they damaged on my property! http://michaelswoodcraft.wordpress.com/2014/02/28/pileated-woodpeckers-hammer/

We just saw the damage to the tree. Never saw the woodpecker. We were surprised that the tree is still alive. We are seeing a lot of damage trees between woodpeckers and beavers. I hate to see the damage but also do not like to see animals hurt either. That was a great picture of the Pileated Woodpecker that you took last year. Thanks for the information!

Is this really the work of our good friend Woody? xxx

    1. Bernice says:

Per my husband it is. 🙂 I would never have guessed but he is the outdoors type guy.
