After making the Slow-Cooked Bourbon Chicken, I had bourbon left over and wanted to make a few other recipes. We love strawberry shortcake so I decided to try a couple of different recipes! Previously I posted a quick and easy recipe to make your own whipped cream using bourbon – Strawberry Shortcake with Bourbon Whipped Cream. Even though it was excellent I wanted to use the strawberries as part of the syrup. For this recipe I served the sauce warm over a biscuit topped with sliced strawberries. Then I added some whipped cream. It was a great topping for a biscuit since they tend to be a bit dry. You could also make this sauce and chill it in the refrigerator. I would imagine it would be a great topping for ice cream and other desserts.
Ingredients
Shortbread, angel cake, or your favorite cake
Strawberries, Sliced
Whipped Cream
Topping
2 cups Fresh Strawberries, sliced
1/8 to 1/4 cup Sugar
1/8 cup Water
2 tbsp Bourbon
To make the sauce combine the strawberries, sugar, water and cook until strawberries are tender and the liquid starts to thicken. This takes about 10 minutes. Stir in bourbon and cook for another minute.

Those strawberries look SO pretty! You have a great camera.
Thanks. We are having a great season of strawberries. I will need to find more recipes. 🙂
Yum!
It was good. 🙂
Delicious!!
Yes it was good! Of course disappointed when it was gone!!
;(
It looks delicious! I also use to add liquor to my whipped cream, usually Marsala, but Bourbon and sugar sounds like a really good match too:)
This is the first time I tried adding alcohol and was happy when it turned out good! I bet there are a lot of other great options instead of bourbon!
Wow these photos are just popping out at me. Strawberry shortcake reminds me of summer and adding a little booze is always fun for the adults.
It really does make it more fun! It was the first time I ever added alcohol to a dessert like this! I will have to look for some more quick and fun desserts for the summer. 🙂
Perfect recipe for summer, Bernice…and I like the idea of using ready made shortcake and making a fresh compote, definitely bookmarking this one:)
Thanks Peri! It really was quick to put together these great desserts! It would also be nice if you are entertaining and want a quick and delicious dessert – plus it just looks great. 🙂
Can you send me some… Please!
That would be nice – wouldn’t it…. if you could read a blog and then get the dish. Kind of like a Star Trek meal replicator. 🙂
I made tour tasty dessert & loved it so much, Bernice. it was very tasty.
I am glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
