Realistic Cooking Ideas

for Busy People! And sharing our life adventures along the way!

Flowers 5_19 7

Greg and I are in the process of getting our summer gardens in place. The weather has gotten nice again and yesterday we went for a wonderful, relaxing walk at Knox Farm Estates. It is always such a peaceful walk! Tonight I came home to a street lined with cars. It is prom night and everyone stops by someone’s house for pictures and food before proceeding to the prom. I hope this graduation class has a wonderful night and has the opportunity to experience their dreams and hopes! And getting back to Star Trek… Has anyone seen Star Trek Phase 2? I am going to check it out tonight – a fellow co-worker told me about this volunteer-based Star Trek series that goes beyond the 5-year mission. And how about this Zachary Quinto vs. Leonard Nimoy: “The Challenge” commercial? And 7 Things: Spock on Spock — video.NEWSWEEK.com interview.

Today I am sharing some wonderful flowers we spotted at the nurseries while we were shopping for our own plants. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

  1. Wow! Your flowers are gorgeous.

    1. Bernice says:

Thanks Bam. They are not all our flowers. They are what we saw at the nurseries. Once we have our gardens mulched I will share our pictures. We might be done next week. The weather is beautiful right now! Hope you are doing well.

Oh! they all look so amazing! It has been such a bad year here we have decided that we are not going to do baskets , just what we have in the ground and bring on what we have grown from seed , Astors, runner beans , tomatoes and potatoes , and just look after our perennials and bushes. No point in working hard on hanging baskets for them to die ( even though we ask neighbours to tend them) when we are away.
The prom thing is catching on over here too with Limmos posh frocks and the like…. I hope they all enjoy because their lives get harder from there on in!! xxxxx

    1. Bernice says:

Yes, hanging baskets are a lot of work in that you must water them every day. They dry out so quickly. Last year we had almost no rain in the summer and it was pretty hot. My husband watered them every morning before he went to work. This year we are getting some rain so the baskets are doing good. But if we go away for a long weekend that could be trouble. We planted a few tomato plants and I have a few herbs outside. I use to plan annuals in the gardens but I stopped doing that.

It is ironic that when you are younger you always want to be older and out of school. Then life becomes more complicated with a lot of responsibilities! I do enjoy downtime from work and not being concerned about getting code to production. Though it is hard for me to ever fully disconnect from work on the weekends since I tend to gravitate towards thinking about better ways to test!

      1. willowdot21 says:

Ironic , that is life. When you have youth and energy you do not have the time or money and then when you have the money youth and energy has gone!! Poof in a puff of smoke!! 😉

      2. Bernice says:

That is so true. I often think if only I had that free time I had when I was younger… and at times bored! Now I have so much to do that I am always a few steps behind. And yes the energy slowly starts to fade away. So sad! I think the mental stress just drains you completely! I have learned to say “no” over the past few years – so I guess that is a start.

  3. Beautiful pictures! Those plants look amazing, I love how the blossoms are bursting out everywhere!

    1. Bernice says:

Thanks. The nurseries have such beautiful flowers this year! We are getting a decent amount of rain this spring — so far the flowers we purchased are doing good.

  4. Sophie33 says:

The nurseries have an array of beautiful flower arrangements! I love it all! Thnaks for this lovely & colourful flower post! 😉 x

It is just a wonderful time of year when you can walk through the nurseries witnessing beautiful flowers and plants! I just love it! Once we get our gardens done I will share some pictures. But we are getting some cold, rainy weather which is slowing down our progress. 🙂

      1. Sophie33 says:

Ooh that’s too bad. It is only beginning to get bether weather over here. We have had 4 days of full sunshine finally,…30°C today! Before it was nasty & alot of rain,…!x

      2. Bernice says:

We are having odd weather. One weekend it is in the 90’s F and then the next weekend it is in the 40/50’s F. The midwest are having a lot of tornados and I suspect we are getting a lot of remnants from their storms. Hopefully the weather will level out for all of us. 🙂

I’ve never watched Star Trek, but most of my friends from university are huge fans, so maybe I should give it a try? Those flowers are beautiful! I really like the orange ones, don’t think we have them in Denmark.

    1. Bernice says:

I just love Star Trek TOS (the original series) and The Next Generation. It is always interesting how different countries have different foods and flowers! I learn so many new things through the blogging world. 🙂
