Realistic Cooking Ideas

for Busy People! And sharing our life adventures along the way!

new years

I just want to wish my friends around the world a very Happy, Safe, and Blessed New Years! A lot of people like to make New Years resolutions to start off a brand new year. Because I tend to live a goal and result-oriented lifestyle, I do not make resolutions. I tend to evaluate my professional and personal life on a regular basis making changes as needed. So instead of sharing goals with you, I would like to share this quote from Zig Ziglar.

“Success means doing the best we can with what we have. Success is the doing, not the getting; in the trying, not the triumph. Success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be.”

A new look for my blog
You may have noticed I changed the look of my cooking blog. I hope you enjoy the changes! You will find my most recent post at the top with a listing of recent postings below. Just click on the heading to read the entire post which will also allow you to read/add comments and see who likes the posting. If you prefer to go straight to the comments, just click on number that is located next to the comment graphic.

Once you open a posting, you can navigate between postings. Plus you have different options to navigate to another recipe. On the right hand side are the top 8 postings that have recently been viewed by my readers. You can click on one of the main headings located in the top bar. To return to my home page, click on the “Realistic Cooking Ideas for Busy People” main heading or the white house located on the upper left hand bar.

I have revised all of my postings to fall into 7-categories consolidating many of the finer breakouts I was previously using. If you click on any of the categories located on the top bar, a new page will open showing a thumbnail picture and a few sentences from the first paragraph. Hopefully this will help you quickly navigate through older recipes. You can also use the search feature at the upper right hand corner. For example, if you type “chicken” in the search box, a page will return with all postings that has the word “chicken”.

On the left hand side, are the two most recent postings for each category. As a side note, when I converted my blog to the new template, some of the thumbnails were randomly selected instead of the main photo being used. I am looking into this conversion problem to see if I can fix it. For example, you will notice my Chewy Oatmeal Cookies thumbnail picture is an ornament instead of the final cookie picture. Not sure how easy that will be to fix but I am looking into this.

I hope you enjoy the new design and find it easier to quickly view my recipes to help you decide which ones you would like to read further. I look forward to researching and sharing more recipes and our adventures during 2013. I enjoy visiting all of your blogs and reading your wonderful stories, recipes, and viewing your beautiful photos! I wish everyone a wonderful year of blogging! Many blessings, Bernice

In this posting I mentioned that the correct thumbnail was not being displayed. Binarymoon, the theme author, provided the solution that I want to share in case any of my blogging friends can use the information.

The thumbnails are pulled from the images you upload in the order they are stored in the database. This means the first image uploaded is the one that is associated with the post.

You can override this by setting a ‘featured image’. If you edit the post and look for the box labelled featured image (either below the content area, or in the sidebar). Click the ‘set featured image’ link – and then select an image in the window that appears – you will be able to set the image to the one that you wish to display.
